Innovative Swiss companies that make an impressive contribution to the future of energy are honoured each year by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy with the “Watt d’Or”, the seal of approval for excellence in energy.
Against this background, with a circle of experts surrounding company founder Ernst Fehr, SSC was able to achieve a fantastic triumph. Because the isolation material SSC-Q1 was used in the NINA multiple unit train modernisation programme, it was possible to achieve significant savings in energy. In 2019, the NINA multiple train unit was crowned the winning project of the “Watt d’Or” in the “Energy-efficient mobility” category.
As one of the participating and honoured companies, SSC sets new standards for practical solutions in railway carriage construction. The key point was to make the operation of the vehicle as energy-efficient as possible: as of 2020, the electricity consumption of the trains must be calculated due to the “effective values” instead of set at a flat rate. With the SSC-Q1 isolation concept, it was possible to demonstrably reduce energy consumption by approximately 30% in comparison to other isolation materials.
